6/05/07 Suzanne, your deep knowledge and love of yoga inspires everyone who attends your classes. Your patient, thorough and attentive teaching style has enabled me to recover from a debilitating low back and neck injury. From my first class with you in November 2006 until todday, I have regained my strength, flexibility and confidence in my physical abilities. So much so that a week ago, while I was accidentally locked out of my house, I was able to use my upper body strength, gained from doing many downward facing dogs & upward facing dogs in class, to hoist myself through a window of my house! I was thrilled beyond belief to have accomplished this and it has shown me just how far along I have come in my recovery. I am very grateful to you and I look forward to many more hours spent in your wonderful studio, practicing youga and gaining from all of your yogic wisdom. Namaste, BR Woodland Hills, CA
11/17/06 Hi Suzanne, It's been a pleasure taking the few classes I've taken with you so far. It's my desire to come more often. Settling into a new routine is often hard for me, but once I do I always reap the greatest rewards. From the very first class, I knew that this no example of an aerobics teacher masking as a yoga teacher, as I often found to be a problem with studying yoga at a gym. Having studied in both that environment as well as yoga centers over the years, the experiences have ranged from merely relaxing to completely transcendent. In your class I immediately intuited a sense of the spiritual, of turning inward, of self-examination (the meditational aspect is often missing in gym yoga classes), which have always been my reasons for studying yoga. The extra bonus I've gotten with your class is a palpable improvement of a six-month-old elbow injury, and learning, as I should've known all along, that the proof of its worth is directly in the prana. These are concepts with which I'm familiar, but having not practiced in about six months, I'd seemed to have lost all touch with the precepts. Your class is helping me to find my way back to a internal practice that has always been crucial to my peace of spirit. Thank you for your offering.- Angela
12/09/07-Aubrie of Topanga- "About a week before I met you, I pulled an 'Angel Card' that specifically told me I should be doing yoga and to keep my eyes open. Then you handed me a flyer about the Holiday party at your studio! I love the classes! I feel so relaxed! And I love the quartz crystals hanging from your ceiling!"
1/22/07-Dan- At the end of his 1st ever yoga class, after svasana (corpse- relaxation pose), I asked him, "How did you enjoy your 1st yoga class?" He responded, "Wow!" Then I asked him if he felt really relaxed and he replied, "Beyond relaxed, I feel like I'm in an altered state!"
1/22/07-Richard of Woodland Hills- "The tensing and releasing at the end of class felt great!!!"
1/23/07-Sherry of Canoga Park- "I haven't used my inhaler for 3 weeks! I think it's because your class is helping me reduce my stress." I responded, "That's wonderful… but don't throw away your inhaler! There are other triggers for asthma, like food and air born induced triggers." Sherry, "Oh, no. I always keep an inhaler in my purse and at home. I've been able to finally sing this one long note in my church choir without cheating! I've never been able to do that before! And I'm taking a few minutes a day to do a little yoga, in another room, at my office to chill out." 1/30/07- Sherry- "I'm on the phone all day at the office…and now I'm doing the sat nam chant inbetween some of the phone calls at work. It helps me to really relax, when customers call to complain I don't react to it anymore!"
2/11/07-"J" of Woodland Hills before class- "I had a panic attack that felt like I was suffocating, when I woke up this morning. It's been a long time since I've come to class. I need to come to yoga a few times a week." I added, "You should also meditate before you go to sleep each night and again when you wake up." During class, with the deep breathing (ujjai breath) and chanting, we saw stress melting away & she said, "I'm feeling much better." I put her into asanas (poses) that helped her to relax and deepen her breathing. She told me after class, "I feel so much better, I have to come regularly!"
2/12/07-Paul of Northridge- During his 1st ever yoga class, after the 1st few minutes of deep breathing (ujjai breath), "Wow! I feel my breathing moving my back." After chanting he said, "My breathing definitely extended longer!" Later during class Paul exclaimed, "Whew! These stretches feel great." (Paul works out with weights at the gym a lot, by the way.) After savasana he told me, "I feel a lot more energy! It feels like I just woke up from a great night sleep! I feel like going out and running now! I can tell I'm going to have a great day! I'll definitely be back soon!"
2/14/07-Linda of Canoga Park- "I also want to thank you for all your personal "care" and attention. Even when you have a full class you always seem to zoom in on anyone needing help. You've also taught me so many things I can do at home or at work to relieve pain and discomfort. Thanks again!"
3/31/07- Anna Lee of Simi Valley- "Since I started taking yoga here with Suzanne, I can mountain bike as often as I like (3 times a week) without strain to my low back and siatica. I'm so happy! It's much more manigable now." (Note: She began taking Suzanne's "Gentle Yoga" classes and has progressed to being able to attend Suzanne's "Beginning to Intermediate" classes.)
